Gender Based Violence Training

KUDOC received grants received from the American Friends of Asian Rural Institute AFARI to trained 10 Women Group Leaders on the concept of Gender Based Violence - the cruel practice, prevention and how to deal with it in an armed conflict. The course was aimed at building the capacity and commitment of 10 participants representing 10 Rural Women’s Group Leaders to undertake programs targeted at eradicating gender-based violence and to develop a new movement for gender equality in an armed conflict prone region. The course also featured a number of exercises and reflective activities designed to examine the concepts of gender, gender-based violence, sexuality, and rights. It further explored the impact of gender-based violence on education, health and development. The overall purpose of the training program increased participant’s knowledge and understanding of the concept of gender, and gender-based violence, sexuality, and rights. It further took a look at the various forms of gender-based violence and the core principles for a code of conduct, reporting mechanisms and developing a programmatic response. The training also sensitized participants on support structures available for victims of such violence, under the framework of family and child protection principles, through various humanitarian agencies as well as non-governmental organizations operation in this region of Cameroon.
